Training of disadvantaged single mothers in creation of crafted items

The Mama Foundation is a Polish NGO established in June 2006 to advance women’s rights and to eradicate the discriminatory attitudes barring them from jobs, and social and cultural circles.

In 2011, Accor Poland and the Mama Foundation worked together to set up a project to help single mothers back into the work market. These women were taught to manufacture modern products with an ethnic inspiration (color, shape). Already in 2012, they created the "Mothers' Cooperative", where they create items (jewels, pottery, bags, etc.) to sell for an income.

The Accor Foundation* were stepping in as the incubator for this company by supporting the training of 12 women and the creation of the cooperative.

* In 2013, the Accor Foundation became Solidarity Accor.

Katarzyna Nowak
Manager of internal communication Accor Poland

Personally, I had never been involved in such a project before, espacially on the field. This experience unites the Accor employees in Poland and motives them. They are proud to have an employer that is involved in these things.
